Prez also recognized Ramadan, Eid-ul-Fitr, Hajj, and Eid-ul-Adha in 2010
So, here we go again. The Obama White House has once again issued a “Best Wishes for Ramadan” statement. (In 2010, he not only recognized Ramadan, but Eid-ul-Fitr, Hajj, and Eid-ul-Adha as well.) In and of itself, this would normally be a non-story – particularly in light of the real goings-on in Washington these days. The problem, as many see it, is Obama failed to issue a similar statement acknowledging Easter, or wishing “Happy Easter” to the world’s Christians.
I’m sure the Kool Aid drinkers will argue, “yeah, but he attended Easter service, you moron,” or something similar. So did millions of Americans, but that didn’t stop them from wishing each “Happy Easter,” did it?
This president has an uncanny ability (desire?) to continually tee up issues that remind millions of Americans that he travels to the beat of a different drummer – particularly as it relates to the behavior of his predecessors. His actions – and often, his non-actions – stand in stark contrast to the behavior we’ve come to expect from our presidents.
Remember the image of Obama, Bill Richardson, and Hillary Clinton standing in front of a huge American flag while the National Anthem was being played? Remember who was the only one on the podium without his hand over his heart? His explanation?
“I don’t want to be perceived as taking sides. There are a lot of people in the world for whom the American flag is a symbol of oppression. The anthem itself portrays a war-like message. You know, the bombs bursting in air, and all. It should be swapped for something less parochial and less bellicose. I prefer “I’d like to Teach the World to Sing.” If that were our national anthem, then maybe I’d salute it.”
Okay, he didn’t really say that, but it was an urban legend that made its way around the internet at the time. However, when questioned why did refused to wear a flag lapel pin during the 2008 campaign, he did give the following explanation:
“Shortly after 9-11, particularly as we’re talking about the Iraq war, it became a substitute for true patriotism, which is speaking out on issues that are of importance to our national security. ”I decided I won’t wear that pin on my chest. Instead, I’m going to try to tell the American people what I believe will make this country great, and hopefully that will be a testament to my patriotism.”
BULL HOCKEY. Not to mention that he considers his self-importance reason enough to define patriotism for the rest of us. His “logic” is ridiculous as well. It’s like saying:
“I’m not going to display a Nativity Scene during the Christmas season because it’s become a substitute for true Christianity. Instead, I’m going to say “Merry Christmas” to as many of the American people as I can. Hopefully, that will be a testament to my faith.”
Displaying a Nativity Scene and wishing “Merry Christmas” is an either-or proposition? Wearing a flag lapel pin and “telling the American people what I believe will make this country great” is an either-or proposition? In the case of Barack Obama, it just might be.
Read his quote carefully. He did not say “what I believe makes this country great,” as most of us would say. Instead, he chose the words “what I believe will make this country great.” There is a world of difference in meaning between those two statements – particularly when it comes to Barack Obama and his socialist philosophy.
When someone says, “you know what will make this recipe great?”, are they not saying – by implication – the recipe is not great as it is? When a presidential candidate uses the same phraseology as it relates to America, how is the inference any different? It is not.
Barack Obama did not (and does not) believe that America is a great country. To the contrary, he believes America will be a great country – if, and only if, it wholly subscribes to his socialist agenda and desire to remake it in the image of Europe.
Guess what, Captain Wealth Redistribution? It ain’t gonna happen. Guess what else? America is a great country – and will remain so, as long as freedom-loving Americans h have anything to say about it, that is. Thank God. And God Bless America – AS IT IS.
