‘RISING SEA LEVELS, MELTING POLAR ICE CAPS, DEVASTATING NATURAL DISASTERS’
The Regime’s Defense Secretary, Leon Panetta, declared global warming a national security threat during a speech before the Environmental Defense Fund in Washington, D.C. this week.
“The area of climate change has a dramatic impact on national security. Rising sea levels, severe droughts, the melting of the polar caps, the more frequent and devastating natural disasters all raise demand for humanitarian assistance and disaster relief.”
Panetta cited the melting of Arctic ice in renewing a longstanding call for the Senate to ratify the United Nations Convention on Law of the Sea. Apparently Leon failed to get the memo: The whole global warming thing isn’t panning out the way he – and the entire environmentalist wacko community – had hoped it would. So sorry, Leon.
While the convention would guarantee various aspects of passage and overflight for the U.S. military – which is a good thing – it’s interesting that Panetta would urge an audience of environmentalists, who don’t tend to look too kindly on the military, to use their influence to push for treaty ratification.
As I’ve written previously, even the United Nations Climate Change Panel has admitted that its prediction on the melting of Himalayan glaciers was not based on science -but rather, on a sole 1999 interview – with one scientist. As Mona Charen observes in the linked article, a new study – based on satellite imagery – “has shown that some melting of lower altitude glaciers is taking place but that higher glaciers have been adding ice.”
Oh, and for those of you who stubbornly cling to the notion that the polar bear population is dying off as we speak, the article cites a new Canadian study showing that the polar bear population is in fact on the rise.

If O is reelected, whaddya wanna bet he revisits the Keystone XL Pipeline Project – right after the election? Musn’t leave a legacy of high gas prices. Besides, he’s thrown better people under the bus than the wackos.

Global warming is a security threat to all low lying countries and portions of the coastal US. For example, densely populated Bangladesh could send millions of refugees into India, destabilizing India and other surrounding countries.
