EGYPT’S NEW MUSLIM BROTHERHOOD PRESIDENT AND THE O-MAN: SYMPATICO?
The O-man calls Morsi’s election a “milestone” in Egypt’s “transformation to Democracy”
Sounds like Barrack Hussein Obama couldn’t get to the phone fast enough Sunday to ring up Egypt’s new Muslim Brotherhood president-elect and offer a heartfelt, “Congrats, bro; welcome aboard!”
“We look forward to working together with President-elect Morsi and the government he forms, on the basis of mutual respect, to advance the many shared interests between Egypt and the United States,” said Regime mouthpiece Jay Carney in a statement.
“We believe that it is important for President-elect Morsi to take steps at this historic time to advance national unity by reaching out to all parties and constituencies in consultations about the formation of a new government. We believe in the importance of the new Egyptian government upholding universal values, and respecting the rights of all Egyptian citizens — including women and religious minorities such as Coptic Christians. Millions of Egyptians voted in the election, and President-elect Morsi and the new Egyptian government have both the legitimacy and responsibility of representing a diverse and courageous citizenry.”
Um, apparently President-elect Morsi sees things a tad bit differently:
“The Koran is our constitution, the Prophet is our leader, jihad is our path and death in the name of Allah is our goal.
Today we can establish Sharia law because our nation will acquire well-being only with Islam and Sharia. The Muslim Brothers and the Freedom and Justice Party will be the conductors of these goals.
We must restore normal relations with Iran based on shared interests, and expand areas of political coordination and economic cooperation because this will create a balance of pressure in the region.
We will reconsider the Camp David Accord that, in 1979, forged a peace between Egypt and Israel that has held for more than three decades.
Our capital shall be Jerusalem, Allah willing!”
A “milestone” in Egypt’s “transformation to Democracy,” huh, O? Nothing quite says “democracy” like the Muslim Brotherhood.
I’ll have an expanded post on the Democrats’ new BFF later – including brilliant analysis from failed presidential candidate, John Kerry. Until then, remember the Left’s admonition:
Let’s not “prejudge” Egypt’s new MusBro president, okay?
Is it possible that the O-man will look back someday and say, “What the hell was I thinking?” Of course not.
