GOTTA GET MORE MEXICANS ENROLLED IN SNAP!
Have you ever wondered – at any time over the last 3 1/2 years – where we might be by now if Barack Obama had only worked half as hard to “reach across the aisle” and “cut the deficit in half” as he has worked to add as many people to the public dole as he possibly can – be they American citizens, or not?
As reported by The Daily Caller, the Regime has been working closely with the Mexican government to increase participation in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), better known as the food stamp program. You read that right - working with the Mexican government.
USDA has an agreement with Mexico to promote American food assistance programs – including food stamps – among Mexican Americans, Mexican nationals and “migrant communities” (illegal aliens) living in America.
While the partnership agreement between the USDA and the Mexican Department of Foreign Affairs was originally signed in 2004, the Regime has stepped up efforts (of course it has) to make sure the Mexican Embassy and Mexican consulates in America provide SNAP information to Mexicans in America. The information is specifically focused on eligibility criteria and access. (Musn’t let anyone fall through the cracks.)
Lest you find yourself surprised, remember – this is the same Regime that offered $75,000 prizes for creative ideas on increasing food stamp participation, and suggested that Americans throw food stamp parties for their friends and neighbors – to inform them that they too might just be eligible to feed from the government teat! D
Doesn’t pro-activity by the government to increase dependency warm the cockles of your heart?
Alabama Republican Sen. Jeff Sessions, who has been pushing for reform of the food stamp program for years, sent a letter to Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack this week asking for documents and information pertaining to the partnership between the USDA and Mexico.
As one might expect from the Regime, the USDA has yet to supply any documents or information as requested by Sessions’s Senate Budget Committee staff – including the Memorandums of Understanding between the USDA and the Mexican government regarding the food assistance partnership. (The USDA is obviously related to Eric Holder.)
“It’s a very disturbing policy, and it raises very serious questions about American immigration policy as well as its fiscal policy. Let’s get back to the fundamentals. What happened with ‘96 welfare reform was to say that if you want to come to America, you come legally; you assert you’re not coming for welfare benefits, but you’re coming to work or otherwise be independent. There is no logic behind an immigration policy that would encourage immigrants who can’t successfully operate within this society.”
Of course, the USDA not only rushes to point out that the program was principally established in 2004, but also denies that food stamps are being given to illegal aliens. Here’s a canned denial from the agency:
“The partnership with the Mexican embassy was established in 2004. USDA does not perform outreach to immigrants that are undocumented, and therefore not eligible for SNAP.”
Sure they’re not.
Memo to USDA: Illegal aliens detained in the United States are “not eligible” to remain in the country either, but guess what?
Not sure what’s gonna do us in first, folks – political correctness or federal insolvency.
