COUNCIL ON AMERICAN ISLAMIC RELATIONS SAYS RESOLUTION CONSTITUTES AN ATTACK ON FREE EXPRESSION
Lo and behold. I guess even a blind squirrel finds an acorn now again, huh? California lawmakers passed an Assembly resolution this week urging colleges and universities to crack down on anti-Semitism and demonstrations against Israel. As one might imagine, it angered advocates of Muslim students in the process. What a shock.
The resolution’s author, Assemblywoman Linda Halderman, R-Fresno, explained:
“California schools need to recognize that anti-Semitism is still a very real issue on college campuses around the state – it did not disappear with the end of World War II.”
While most of the incidents of anti-Semitism cited by the resolution were related to the Israel-Palestine debate – including instances of protesters comparing Israeli police to Nazis - the resolution also condemned the suggestion that Israel is a “racist” state and that Jews “wield excessive power over American foreign policy.” The resolution also referred to the student campaign to pressure the University of California system to divest from Israel as “anti-Semitic” – and applauded universities for their refusal to respond to the pressure.
As to be expected, the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR) said the resolution went too far and constituted an attack on students’ right to “free expression.” Really?
Just wondering: Does beheading Christians in the Middle East constitute an attack on their free expression? Or, perhaps, torching churches in Africa – with worshipers inside – worshiping? Gotta love the double-standard of “the peaceful religion.” Hell – you’d think Muslims were liberals. Oh, wait – in America, most of them are.
Here’s CAIR spokeswoman, Rachel Roberts:
“By characterizing pro-Palestinian speech as anti-Jewish, the Legislature sidelines those Muslim students and progressive Jewish students who often organize together to raise awareness about the Middle East.”
I must be missing something. Protest signs equating the Star of David to a Nazi swastika? How exactly does this “raise awareness” of anything but anti-Semitism? “Pro-Palestinian” speech in support of those who chant “Death to Israel!” in their morning prayers? Silly me.
Limiting freedom of speech is always a slippery slope – regardless of the hatred behind that speech. But, as Santayana said, “Those who forget history are doomed to repeat it.”
First, it’s swastikas painted on signs and buildings. What’s next - Kristallnacht 2.0?

First of all the fact that the law does not apparently apply to all religions throws a red flag right away—no religious bias should be shown. That being said Rat, I was with ya all the way till the part about most Muslims being liberals, but I guess you couldn’t resist!
On the law of averages, even a broken clock is right twice a day
Geez, does that mean they’re going to do SOMETHING ELSE right?

We’ll know when it is about to happen as pigs will do a fly past

(Wrote a non-political blog for awhile – which is now in hibernation – called “Flying Pigs,” which was about all such improbable nonsense.)
I’d love to see that post – yes, there’s all sorts of things we think are impossible and then there’s what’s really impossible – like Obama showing the spirit of a real American
Perhaps, I’ll fire it up again. Will let you know. As I said, the blog only contained non-political posts. As you might imagine, that was very hard for me to do!
That is almost as hard to imagine as California lawmakers being right twice
Okay, Jess, here’s the link: “Flying Pigs.”
As they say, seeing is believing – like it
Thanks, it was fun!
Glad you liked it. Check out the music section sometime. Click on a link or two. I’m particularly fond of the Redemption Song video.
