Romney Campaign On Damage Control Over Secret ‘Victims’ Video: The Hell Of It? Mitt’s Exactly Right

MORE BLOOD IN THE WATER FOR O AND MEDIA LAPDOGS – MORE DIVERSION FROM O’S FAILED POLICIES

With the dust yet to settle on the the liberal media sock puppets’ non-stop attack on Mitt Romney over his statement critical of the Regime’s response to the crazed Muslim attacks in Egypt and Libya, liberals have another reason to celebrate: a video has surfaced showing Romney telling wealthy donors that almost half of Americans “believe they are victims” entitled to extensive government support – and adding that as a candidate for the White House, “my job is not to worry about those people.”

Guess what, America? Mitt’s right. Hell yeah.

Of course, the Regime, its lapdogs in the media and the Obamabots will spin “It’s not my job to worry about them” into “Screw them – let those sorry losers fend for themselves!” – when the correct interpretation of Mitt’s comment is this: “There is nothing I can ever do to convince these people to vote for me – and I can’t spend time or campaign resources would be foolish.”

As to be expected, Team O jumped all over the video – made public by Mother Jones magazine – with both disingenuous feet, calling it “shocking.” O’s campaign manager, Jim Messina:

“It’s hard to serve as president for all Americans when you’ve disdainfully written off half the nation.”

Really, Jim? I guess it’s easier to “serve as president” when you’ve “disdainfully written off” America’s small business owners, large corporations, the oil and gas industry and “the rich,” right? Oh – wait – sorry: they only comprise the evil 1% – I forgot. At any rate, Jim, let’s analyze Mitt’s comment, shall we?

“There are 47% of the people who will vote for the president no matter what. There are 47% who are with him, who are dependent upon government, who believe that they are victims, who believe the government has a responsibility to care for them, who believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing, to you name it.”

What – exactly – is “shocking” here, pal? Every month, record numbers of Americans are on food stamps and Social Security Disability Income. 49% of Americans pay no federal income tax – with a large percentage of them receiving tax “refunds.” As a matter of fact, Gallup – that’s the polling organization O’s thug David Axelrod recently threatened, remember? – released a poll this week showing that an astonishing 67% of Democrats think the government needs to “do more” - while 82% of Republicans and 62% of Independents believe the government is doing “too much.”  Can you spell “e-n-t-i-t-l-e-m-e-n-t  m-e-n-t-a-l-i-t-y”?

And the irony of the whole thing is this: an entitlement mentality is exactly what the Democrats have worked their asses off for decades to create. Their only problem with Mitt’s assessment? They want it to be at least 51%.

So hell, O, after thinking about it – I’d say that Mitt’s 47% number is pretty damn conservative. I mean, consider this: after four years of your incessant class warfare against “the rich,” the OWS loons ranting on for a year about the poor “99- percenters” who suffer at the hands of the evil 1% and your embarrassing (extra-constitutional) placation of illegal aliens – I’d be surprised if the number wasn’t much higher.

But, hey – if you get another four years, O, I’m sure you can drive that number up well over 60% and prove Mitt wrong.

  1. I can’t wait to see what all you have to say about the upcoming election. I’m turning my ears off to most of the TV palaver. Amazing how much can be made of everything and most of it is not helpful or productive.

  2. I was just watching this story on the Fox News Channel. I said essentially the same thing: “Romney is right. He is not going to convince those folks that benefit from government programs to vote for him”. As your Breitbart quote states “can always count on….”. So, what is the big deal here? Personally, I am fuming right now. To hear that Social Security is adding people on the disability roles that are not sick of injured, really lights my fire. A few weeks ago, FNC reported 30 billion dollars that Social Security paid to the children of illegal immigrants, not even living in the United States! How can this happen? I hate liberals more and more every day!

  3. Mitt seems gaffe-prone – and of course O is going to use anything to divert attention from his record.

  4. Of course he is, Jess. Like you, the rat usually agrees with me. ;-)

  5. Husbands don’t raise your wives to be neophytes concerning taxes.

For thirty years just had wife tend to kids and family, while I did taxes. We had the withholding and usually got some few dollars back in refund. Never big amount to pay in April that would cause her to take notice. Many years having to pay a quarterly amount so would not be delinquent and pay penalty in April. So now with news on who do not pay, she said we don’t pay federal taxes huh? That was the purpose of the tax law taking out little by little, so as you may not notice so much. My fault as I should have informed her, but thought she had enough to worry about. I’d tend to that.

As I don’t never toss a receipt over the last nearly half century, I could show her. Paid federal taxes…way over any refund for forty years.

  6. I’ve posted before about how I have no sympathy for healthy, able-bodied people who take advantage of the system – a system that needs to be fixed for sure. I was raised in a very liberal family, and the only grace I ever heard my father say at the table was “The Lord helps them who help themselves”. It was tongue in cheek about digging into the food, but that was truly the sentiment of all the liberal, working class adults in my life.

If Romney wanted to make a point about the unethical, lazy folks who take advantage of the system, he should just make that point. Instead he uses hyperbole to paint all Obama supporters with one broad brush stroke. He mangled the stats here. Yes, about 47% do not pay income taxes, but take a closer look at why. This is from the Tax Policy Center’s 2011 report. I don’t think your blog has a way to upload documents, but let me know if you’d like it and I’ll send you the pdf. The opening line of their report is “About 46 percent of American households will pay no federal individual income tax in 2011″, and here is their break down of this percentage.

23% = Low income. There’s no income tax if your income falls below a certain threshold. For a family of four, that threshold was $26,400 last year.

10% = Benefits for the elderly. Some Social Security payments are not taxed as income depending on your adjusted gross income. The elderly also get an extra standard deduction that lowers their taxes, in some cases to zero.

7% = Benefits for the working poor and children. These include the earned income tax credit, the child tax credit, and the child care tax credit. Because of these special benefits, a family of four (two parents, two children) earning up to $45,775 last year would not have had to pay income taxes, primarily because of special credits for children.

6% = Other benefits. This includes itemized deductions, tax credits for education, and the income tax exemptions for everything from disability payments to interest on municipal bonds.

Now, people like you in the financial services industry realize the nuances to the blanket statement “47% don’t pay taxes”, but many people do not know much about tax law. I spent the first 20 years of my adult life schlepping out tax returns as a CPA. I’m rusty, but not rusty enough to see through statements like Romney made.

Actually, I watched the whole video of the fundraising meal speech – the dude on the right was so busy inhaling his food, I don’t think he even heard a word Mitt said :) Mitt was pretty funny at times, teasing the person who wasn’t eating. Too bad he can’t loosen up a bit more when he is behind a podium.

Another question – do you really think the entire 47% are voting for Obama? I think a good chunk of the 10% elderly and 6% other are a lock for Romney. It’s going to be a squeaker.

    • You’re absolutely right, Cheryl; when we were growing up, the entitlement mentality was nowhere near as pervasive among liberals as it is today.

Of course there are hardworking Democrats who don’t believe they are owed anything by anyone.

But – when 67% of liberals say they think the government needs to “do more” for them? We’re not in Kansas anymore. (Does that mean we’re in Oz?)

      • That 67% was from the recent Gallup poll that questioned should the government do more to solve our country’s problems, not should there be more handouts and people on welfare. It’s a broad question that pertains to all of today’s issues. The exact question was: “Some people think the government is trying to do too many things that should be left to individuals and businesses. Others think that government should do more to solve our country’s problems. Which comes closer to your own view?” 67% Democrats said do more, 29% Independents said do more, and 15% Republican’s said do more. I can only imagine the myriad of interpretation by both the left and right and independents of the word “problems”.
