HHS PAYS PUBLIC RELATIONS FIRM $17.6 MILLION TO SELL VOTERS ON HEALTHCARE DEBACLE
If the Regime has accomplished nothing else over the first 3 1/2 years of its reign – it has learned how to misappropriate taxpayer money to fund its own agenda. From the I Killed Osama Bin Laden Victory Tour to the O-man’s campaign trip to Afghanistan to congratulate himself on the first anniversary of the raid that killed OBL, the Regime has been anything but bashful when it comes to using your money to sell you on the tremendous accomplishments of Dear Leader.
It should come as no surprise then that one of O’s partners in crime – Kathleen Sebelius, Health and Human Services Secretary – is paying a public relations firm $17.6 million of our money to sell us on the many virtues of ObamaCare. How stupid do they think we are? Stupid enough to allow them to get away with it, apparently.
Sen. Rob Portman, R-Ohio, recently sent a letter to Sebelius asking for details on exactly how that $17.6 million will be used.
“If you’re trying to educate the public as to how to comply with a specific law, there might be a purpose in it. If, on the other hand, you’re doing a PR blitz to try to sell a program during an election year, that seems to me to be more in the realm of something a political organization should be paying for rather than us as taxpayers.”
Earlier this year, Portman and Sen. Claire McCaskill, D-Mo. wrote to 12 federal agencies asking for an accounting of taxpayer money spent on public relations, publicity and advertising. Ten of 12 agencies complied with their request. The Department of Health and Human Services did not. Perhaps the O-man gave Sebelius a “waiver”, huh?
According to the HHS website, the purpose of the contract with the public relations firm – Porter-Novelli – is “a national integrated multi-media campaign education campaign that promotes the preventive healthcare benefits available to all Americans as a result of the Affordable Care Act.” Sure it is.
Translation: Support for ObamaCare continues to suck and we desperately need to do the best snow job we can before the election – or the O-man’s toast for sure.
Calling the promotion “deeply suspicious,” Tom Schatz of Citizens Against Government Waste says the timing of the $17.6 million dollar HHS contract to prop up ObamaCare is dubious at best:
“If part of the healthcare law is found to be unconstitutional, and it’s something that they’re advertising, then it’s been a big waste of money. The real purpose of this seems to be to promote the president’s achievement with the healthcare law in the hope that this might assist in his reelection.”
Truth be told, I’m not convinced the Regime wouldn’t be just fine with losing ObamaCare to SCOTUS. Think about it; the way the bastards get off on firing up the base against conservatives, they’d love it: “Five Republican justices took away your healthcare!”
At any rate, here’s the deal: If Obamapalooza 2.0 wants to use campaign contributions to promote ObamaCare as an achievement of the O-man – in hopes of hanging on to fleeing ex-Obama voters in November, that’s their business. However – the use of taxpayer dollars to sell taxpayers (and those we support, as well) on a government takeover of the U.S. healthcare system – which was a dead horse with the public from the beginning – is a different story. That’s our business, is it not?
The problem is – the O-man is (correctly) counting on a majority of us to roll over and play Osama bin Laden.
I bet Dude just smiles, and thinks to himself – every night before he goes to bed – how stupid America is. Will he still be smiling come November 7?
